Most Evenly matched ww1 alliances

I imagine that Germany/Austria/Ottomans versus UK/France/Russia/Italy would result in years of bloody stalemate until one side collapsed from exhaustion. Maybe that's just me, though.

What would be the most plausible evenly matched alliances in a ww1 scenario?

A large variable is the US. Getting her involved early changes quite a few things, but that's difficult. A war with the UK and Germany allied creates major headaches for those facing such a duo. You have to have a counter for the RN, and the isolation such an alliance creates for Russia. A POD matching France and American together again versus their old nemesis Britain might do the trick, but you have to have a pretty large change involved. A Franco-Russo-American alliance versus the Anglo-German-Austrian alliance might create some tight spots for stalemate. Traitorous Italy becomes crucial actual as I think you need her to side with the FAR alliance ... perhaps Russia and French offer as much of the Turks territory (Excluding Constantinople) as they want, trumping British offers. Along other lines and highly unlikely would be the Turks managing to get on the FAR alliance and (ASB proximity) along with Serbia and the Russians do some real damage to the Austrians. Perhaps collapsing a front. I'm not sure how the RN and High Seas Fleet don't smash anything they find on the oceans but just trying to find an alternate solution for the topic.

I think Germany/Russia/Italy vs. UK/France/Austria/Ottomans/USA would be plausible.

Alternatively Germany/Italy/Austria/USA vs. UK/France/Russia would a possible match.

I've actually been working on something along these lines for a while now, although I think it's still rather rough around the edges. Napoleon succesfully returns from elba and builds a strong alliance with the united states. however that seems to lead inexorably to a pro- british CSA that negates most of the support that America could give to France.

you know, now that I post it, that Idea is starting to sound really bad, maybe I should just scrap the project.

A lot would depend on the POD and more importantly perhaps, when it was. Early enough and you could have something that seems totally outlandish to us, both it terms of which powers are involved and what seems to balance. I.e. make the POD ~1850 and you could have a mega Ottoman Empire, powerful CSA, Prussia + very powerful France v Britain, US, Austria + Russia say.

If your presuming a post-1900 POD things are simplier but still a fair amount of options. The big issues would be the US and to a lesser degree Britain as both could be latecomers to the party so to speak and hence time taken to moblise their potentially massive forces.

The other uncertainties are leadership capability and luck. OTL the war was costly and very close for much of its path in part because errors my the allies meant their superior resources didn't really become decisive until later in the war.

If you want something closer than OTL but without major imbalances in the quality of the leaderships of any power from OTL levels possibly Britain, Germany, Austria, Japan, [+Turkey from early on] v France, Russia, Italy [+ US from early on]. Alliance A would have a clear advantage in Europe and probably at sea [depending on date of POD as if an early alliance with Britain Germany would probably have a markedly smaller navy]. However would have great difficult forcing the US to some sort of decision before the latter started moblising heavily so could become a hell of a slog in N America while the US allies are encouraged to continue fighting by this.

If it's all about even matches, no need to stray away from OTL. We got splendidly balanced alliances able to lose 15,000 men to take 1.5 square kilometers.
