Most effective examples of counter-guerrilla warfare?

Not really sure where to put this question as pre- and post-1900s answers can be given. What are some examples of occupying powers that were most effective at eliminating guerrillas, and under what circumstances were they able to be effective?

USA with the troop surge in Iraq in 2007. More troops and working with the people.

USA in the Philippines in early 1900's

Germany 1945 vs Operation Werewolf. Kill the thing before it starts.

Netherlands 1941-42. Germans infiltrated the movement, partially though intercepting Brit SOE ops.

Strictly speaking the US did cripple & suppress the Viet Cong 1965-67, but the NVA were deployed and operational by 1967.

Portugal became pretty successful in its counter insurgency during the early 70’s. The insurgency was mostly defeated in Angola and Mozambique, but the Estado Novo was very unpopular at home

Rhodesia deserves mention given the white minority rule, their pariah status (they certainly were an occupying power, and not a very nice one), and how long they managed to hold on. The Selous Scouts especially were impressive at their job, since just their unit killed several times as many guerillas as the rest of the Rhodesian military. Just look at Operation Eland. There's also Operation Dingo, where about 200 Rhodesians allegedly killed 3000 guerillas and wounded another 5000.

The trick seems to be using deception and infiltration of the enemy force to set up what are basically massacres since most of the guerillas killed in operations like these were unarmed at the time of their deaths.

Finnish occupation of Soviet Karelia, 1941-1944. The chosen method (prison camps and favourable treatment of the part of the population deemed "Finnic") combined with the small total population of the occupied area prevented the partisan activities in the region almost completely.

I'm not sure how much the surge counts. As I understand it, the drop in attacks mainly coincided with the beginning of large payoffs to militia leaders to not engage in aggression. Very Persian, I suppose-offer a troublesome enemy peace and a satrapy.
