Most beautiful city world wide - ATL!!!

WHats the most beautufil city of the world in any Timeline of your choice?

I have something with rome. Its absolutly unbelievable what builidings this town was able to save. Imagine the Colloseum is in use for nearly 2000 years now!

But still my bet goes to the Aztecs and their Tenochtitlan. Venice is a dry and stinking hole against this brilliant water-town-simply great!

Interesting, I'll keep my tabs on this one but I'm thinking of an Alt-Tenochtitlan in my Alternate New World thread...Featuring...ORCS!!!

I like Hangzhou as much as the next man, but it's a bit sterile, and having any kind of fun takes way more money than I have.

Now, if you want my unbiased opinion - I'll take Barcelona. Milan is impressive and Gravenague positively bombastic, but Barcelona has all the grandeur of an imperial capital combined with a vibrant, urban, in-your-face culture that you otherwise find in places like Naples, Paris, London and Antwerp. Down by the port, along the colonnadoes, lunching on fresh grilled pilchard and sipping iced orchata, flirting with the ladies and talking politics with any passing student or longshoreman (the level of education in that place is *amazing*) - life doesn't get much better.

Constantinople is and has been the most beautiful city in the world for over a thousand years now. A church on every corner, the face of the Savior and his anointed staring out over the vast markets of the place, the beautiful blue-green of the Marmara right outside the vast white walls, words can only fail to describe the experience.

The capital of Toledo is simply fantastic. A bit crowded, for sure, but one of the most interesting capitals I've ever seen.

Hm. The city core is certinly magnificent, but with all the growth of the last couple centuries, the suburban sprawl inland has gotten pretty bad. Now, for a more "finished" overall look, I'd recommend New Ectabana, capital of the Third Persian Empire: it's smaller than timeline #789jspowl83467502.998567's Constantinople, but it's still the beating heart of Persiac culture from Armenia to North India to the borders of China, and if the religious architecture is not quite as fabulous as that of Constantinople (Zoroastran fire-temples tend to go for a more modest look) it's still full of architectural jewels from all the years since the 14th century, has a higher density of poets and songwriters (once with actual talent, that is) than almost anywhere else, and given the Persian love of color and water and gardens, even the most modern portions of the city have a great deal of charm.

Of course, if you want to go for sheer gonzo over-the-top grandiosity, few timelines have anything to top the European Technocratic Union's capital of Metropolis - some people grumble that it was built as a vulgar effort to leave New York in the shade, and it's true that it has its problems, especially for sufferers from vertigo - but how can one not admire a city built around the flying car, a city which at times seems to be trying to out-Frank-Paul Frank Paul?
