Mormons in Canada

I think the Indians and the climate are more of a problem then the pushback against American incursion. Not only is this a pretty remote area where the writ doesn't run very effectively, there was definitely a streak in the Mormons of that era that was fed up with America, and Brigham Young was intensely practical. Some sort of arrangement is likely to get worked out.

Yes, but Britain was able to send people to the Plains even before this period. See the Selkirk Settlements, which occurred during the Napoleonic Wars, much earlier than this timeframe. Americans coming into the Plains would likely cause Britain to send more immigrants, causing earlier immigration waves.
