In addition to the NY Draft Riots after the Gettysburg campaign, other northern cities also experienced similar violent disturbances by Irish immigrants over the draft, the war, & blacks. There were similar disturbances in other places like Buffalo & Cincinnatti among others- now, WI these draft riots had been just as bad as the disturbances which wrecked NY in July 1863 ? how much more would the Union's war effort have been hampered by such widespread anti-war discontent coupled with the need to transfer veteran regts back from the front to suppress the rioters ? Could the Copperheads have really taken advantage of this violent war weariness to oust Lincoln ?
