More Wars As A Result Of Sports Contests Like The 'Soccer War' In C.America 1969?

The most famous actual war caused by a sporting contest although it was brewing up anyway, was The Honduras V El Salvador border clash in 1969, which followed on from a tense soccer world cup qualifying game between those 2 countries and became known as the 'Soccer war'.
A prominent Croat soccer player hit a Serb police officer a couple of clatters during a major football game in the old Yougoslavia just prior to the break up and subsequently became a Croat hero.
Also 0ne likely contest which could have led to a war replay was the infamous 1956 olympic blood in the pool water polo game between Hungary and the Soviet Union.
Are there any more that could have led to all out war?
Possibly Mussolini's Italy defeating Nazi Germany in 1934, leading to a conflict in relation to Austria?
Football is war by another means!

Can't see how having been licked not once, but twice by the Red Army in the space of 12 years that the Hungarians would be crazy enough to allow any situation to escalate because of the water polo match. Especially as the match only occurred about a month after the Soviet intervention anyway.

Maybe Even A Few Civil Wars?

As some of you may know I'm Irish and Gaelic games here are organised from the ground up, starting at parish level onto county level and in a sense it has dissipated faction fighting between villages, although on occassion might have exacerbated it, look up the Wicklow Gaelic Football Team for references or more especially, Co.Wicklow club gaelic football. Also the first catholic secretary for Scotland who also became the first catholic to have the similar post for Northern Ireland, John Reid, currently a director at Celtic FC in Glasgow, said that the famous Celtic-Rangers rivalary has helped deflect sectarianism in that city.

A Confrontation Between Canada And The United States.

In light of the post Stanley Cup series violence, in Vancouver, widely accepted as the best city in the world in which to live, any possibility there could be a minor scale cofrontation between Vancouver and Boston, leading to issues between the Yanks and the Canucks?
In general though have intense international sporting rivalaries helped to disipate international confrontations eg USA V USSR in basketball and hockey during the cold war and possibly Brazil V Argentina in soccer?

The Chicago Cubs win the World Series in October of 19...well, whenever after 1969 actually.

All reasonable, rational, intelligent people conclude (correctly) that the End Times are here. There is a run on banks. Vegans become carnivores. Wrigley Field is the site of mass human sacrifice. Cthulu returns, only to flee in horror. Vatican City declares war on Avignon. Barney the dinosaur becomes the last hope for humanity against the darkness...

Mass Hysteria!
And war.

Impressive, but pales into insignificance compared to the average West Ham v Millwall match.

Or Cardiff and Swansea football brawls, betcha the old bill are glad they will be in separate divisons in the English soccer league next year, Cardiff came very close to promotion along with Swansea to the premiership and a premiership game between them might make the term 'all seated' irrelevant with the amount of skin, hair and seats that would be flying between the 'fans'.

Actually what prompted me to start this thread is that the gold cup is currently in progress which is the continental soccer tournament between North American, Central American and Carribean nations and both Honduras and El Salvador, the original participants in the soccer war have been involved, though not playing each other and everything seems to be in order.
Canada seems to be going backwards in soccer - where's Brian Budd these days and it was good to see Cuba participating at the finals though they are playing quite poorly as well.
