More sucsessful Greco-Indian Kingdom?

I was stumbling, and I found a page about a Alexandrian successor state in Northern India. Now, since the idea intrigued me, I wondered what would happen if you had this kingdom last longer, perhaps into Medieval times.
link.

You need to have the Indo-Greeks capture northern India as OTL and keep it to prevent any change of the Sunga from rising.

IOTL it and successor lasted about 400 years. Greek was sort of like English is today in the Northern part of the Sub Continent.

Kushan Empire will conquer this kingdom as soon as.
Greeks always loser after the Alexander the Great.
They are not a great nation.

Ah great. A Turkish uber-nationalist? Fun. :p

Anyway, I don't think that an Greco-Indian/Indo-Greek kingdom would last into the Middle Ages, simply because empires/kingdoms didn't last that long. It'd probably go fully Indian, perhaps retaining a few scattered words and traditions from the Greeks, but not much.

Well, the Eastern Roman Empire managed to last until 1453. :)

Despite the nasty comment about the Greeks, Sadr had a good point about the Kushans. The Indo-Greek kingdom is going to have to deal with them at some point.

Nationalist insults aren't tolerated on this board. You're kicked for a week, during which you will be unable to post.

This is OTL, actually. Indian drama might owe its origins to the Greek states. And some have suggested there's a great deal of Greek influence in Gandharan Buddhism. Hmm, here's my article on this: http://www.tcnj.edu/~JOSS/2009/2009 Blair.pdf

Long term? Hrmm, I suppose the effects are unclear. My guess is you might see more incorporation of some aspects of Hellenistic religion, and probably some Greek thought. But how much is unclear; how many philosophers are going to head all the way to India?

The larger effects would be the effects on the Seleucids, and the possiblility of Gandharan Buddhism filtering west.

I thought the Kushans were Indo-Iranian. The Xiongnu were more likely Turkic than them.

Well, he's popped up in other threads then this, always advocating something to do with the Turks, specifcally the Ottomans.

But anyway, okay yeah, I could see the Indians keeping more Greek traditions. Perhaps their leaders are referred to as an Indianized version of Basilos?

I still say the best shot is that Alexander the Great goes forward and advances into India and conquers what would've been the Maurya Empire. Wait a couple of decades and a general arises up, creating his own Hellenistic state in India.
