Hinduism is one of the few belief systems that are polytheistic. One of the rare polytheistic and not evangelical religions that were able to withstand, and counteract the abrahamic religions, be it Christianity or Islam. We possible examples of other such religions are in my opinion Shintoism, Chinese Folk religion, Ifa of Yoruba people and some other ethnic religions. I am aware of the fact that there are many Hinduisms, and the more intellectual and less folk stands of hinduism perceive all Hindu gods as embodiments of one god, however not a one god in abrahamic sense. I apologise beforehand to Hinduism specialists or practicing Hindus for my crude oversimplification, and welcome your insights on Hinduism. What is also interesting that it was a polytheistic religion that had not syncretised with broader philosophies or religions, like Buddhism or Taoism. My questions is how we can make situations that make Hinduism as it is now, possible and make it that other polytheistic religions similar to it? Would the fall of non-christian Roman Empire lead to it? or if we have a larger and more centralised early African Empires? Additional question is what would make more religions like Shinto or Chinese follk religions possible, which were syncretised with Buddhism or Taoism, but had a high status in state and royal culture aside from being a folk religions for commoners, like in Chinese Empires or in Japan?
