More Nations in the Americas?

How many, and what nations could have successfully set up self-sustaining colonies in the Americas?

The Netherlands and Sweden are obvious choices. But is there anyone else who could have done it? Were and Islamic nations capable of doing it, even on a small level? Still keeping England, France, Spain, and Portugal in the game as well.

POD can be no sooner than 1450.

Sweden is hardly obvious, their focus is naturally towards the east (through the baltics battling a ascentent Russia), when they aren't having one of their regular wars with Denmark, and they would have a tough time getting through Denmark-Norway who sits on nearly all of their western border (except for some 50km around Göteborg, if even that much) and even then they'd still have to run a gauntlet of naval superiority through both Kattegat (which etymology came from the Dutch word for 'cat gap', as in tight enough for even a cat having to squeeze) and Skagerak strait.

But Sweden did have a colony that lasted nearly twenty years. Which is why I gave such a far back maximum POD. You can make the POD closer if that would help.

Sweden had a money sink that noone bothered conquering for 20 years, until the Dutch got around grabbing it doing the Second Northern War. And Sweden didn't have the focus nor the ability to seriously consider expanding on it, as their focus was to the east (towards Russia) and secondarily towards all the little Germanies.

Sweden was probably the third least likely contender that actually made it, after Courland, who had just a short life there (in Caribbean), and knight hospitaliers who also tried taking a bite of that apple

Scotland had one in the Darien region of central America it bankrupted them and lead to the act of union which was England's price for baling them out. The man behind the scheme went on to found the bank of England

If the Darien scheme, saw them land near OTL Canada the fur trade would be brilliant for Scotland.

If a Russian Tsar, saw the importance of Alaska, we may see an improved Alaska.

During the nine year war, HRE was able to win a victory over France, which would see King Louis XIV of France give some of its American colonies over to Leopold I, Holy Roman Empire in the Treaty of Rhine, a treaty that would anger the French public.
