how could you limit how far the conquistadors went north from what is now Mexico city? How can you increase french settlements in niorth America?

I had some ideas like, stronger creole/Cajun cultures and a Russian Alaska longer than OTL.

How can you increase the strength of Creole and Cajun cultures in Louisiana? I had ideas like Haiti controlling all of Hispanola and the whites and mulla toes flee to Louisiana more than OTL, even the Spanish colonists flee too due to conflict in Cuba and Puerto Rico at that time.

A Chinese speaking California, German speaking Midwest. Basically all the stereotypes and cliches taken out :p

Surviving longer or at all New France may add more french speakers, of one... and may make some native languages stronger indirectly, by having lese.... colonial pressure. Also, metis Mitchief language may thrive in the west.

Maybe.

More dutch settlers on what is now New York?

French settlement in North America could be spurred if France went Protestant, funnily enough.

IOTL there's only a sustainable French presence in North America because French Canadians had for a long time the highest birth rates ever recorded anywhere in the world at any time period! I suspect that'd be unlikely to happen if they wern't Catholics ;)

You'd need a LOT of immigration just to make up for a more normal birth rate, let alone to start to increase the Frenchness of NA.

edit -- unless I'm misunderstanding you and you mean a protestant France spurring the emigration of diehard catholics.

That's exactly what I mean. A France not bent on making the New World a model Catholic colony would spur settlers apart from fur-trappers, too.

Well, I am not sure if more conservatives protestant groups could not be.. productive, too. Like Boers.
