There were 2 different cases of very successful offensive minelaying in WW2
1-The USN effort against Japan
2-KM and Finnish navy against soviets in the Baltic

Given this and other examples of successful offensive minelaying ( like against vietnam by USAF) was there any thought given to such efforts during the cold war era ?
The NATO navies because of their overwhelming presence on the high seas would naturally not be much interested but the soviet, chinese, other smaller navies did not give it much attention during the 1945-1990 period ? I say this as NATO MCM measures were nowhere as sophisticated as their ASW forces.

If you are the Soviets or chinese admiral how would you further improve your mine technology and tactics during the cold war era ? And how will it affect the NATO navies and their MCM efforts

thanks
