More Benign Treatmnt Of German And Japanese Military Post WW2?

What if both the German and Japanese post WW2 were allowed to build up military forces again substantially more so than IOTL, would they have still 'won' the peace or pose a threat to the West/East in the future! Even if denazified/defascisted. My understanding is that withrespect to post WW2 Germany there were still some very mad small bands of maurauding Nazis - 'the grey wolves' taking pot shots at the occupying forces and that the mayor of a small town was assassinated by them! Also just as Iraq has not been purged of all Bathists, as they held all prominent posts, complete denazification was not a goer!
Could they have played a more active role in Vietnam/Korea?

You are aware that right after the surrender the US put Germany army units in control of keeping order in some areas due to a shortage of MPs? That the West German army was one of the largest in NATO?

How much better treatment and larger military forces do you think you can get?

There were restrictions placed on both certainly in terms of oversea's operations which is why German involvement in the first Gulf war was considered so prcedent setting of course, Germany was unified by then!
