More ACW vets serve in Cuba 1898

OK, gain inspired by watchin Gary Busey as Fightin joe Wheeler in ROUGH RIDERS (not to mention other high-ranking US generals like William Shafter), WI other such ACW vets had made an appearance in a combat capacity in the SAW ? Guys like say, among others:
Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain (who did in fact, despite his severe war wounds, offered his services as a US Army officer to fight in Cuba but was turned down- which he cited as a major disappointment)
Benjamin Grierson (had he not retired from the Army in 1890)
Simon Bolivar Buckner
Wade Hampton

The US would have gone broke suppling the needed wheelchairs.
Wheeler was picked because he was the only Ex-rebel General who could feed himself 9 times out of 10. There is a reason Wood was in charge of a Brigade instead of his Regiment ( The First US Volunteer Cavalry ) all the old farts with stars were on sick call. This is the reason that a man who was a captian in 1898 became the commander of the AEF 18 years later, the Army found out that Generals over 55 years old did not do well outside of DC.
