Monty dies of illness in Palestine

Just read a mil hist article on Montgomery's involvement in suppressing the Palestuinian Revolt, while commanding the british 8th inf Div, during 1938-39, then also his role in failing to suppress Jewish terrorism in 1946-48. During his 1st tour of duty, he came down with a serious illness which nearly killed him before he returned to the UK to command the 3rd IRON Div. Now, WI he had indeed succumbed to the fever in 1939 ? How would WWII have looked without Monty to lead the 8th Army to victory ?
