Montgomery remains CSA Capital?

I've always read that the CSA's first capital was in Alabama but was moved to Virginia. So my question is is there any difference in the Civil War in a world where the capital is in the Deep South?

In 1860, Montgomery had a population of 8843 people, compared to Richmond's 37,910, so Montgomery might be too small to properly house the Confederate government. It would avoid the "On to Richmond" focus of OTL, which would probably help the Union. Without the focus of a nearby Confederate capitol, Union strategy is more likely to focus on long term plans instead of attempting a quick knockout blow. There still would be heavy Union presence in northern Virginia, but the focus would be more on defending Washington DC, and to a lesser extent West Virginia from Confederate offensives. Rather than driving on Richmond, there might be more focus for striking west from Washington to capture eastern Tennessee. In the west, I'd expect gaining control of the Mississippi River to be be a priority, just like in OTL. If western Tennessee wasn't already in Union hands by that point, I'd expect the Union to seize that next, then the state of Mississippi. Looking at the railroads, the Union would likely drive south to seize Atlanta, plus send amphibious expeditions to capture Mobile, Alabama and Pensacola, Florida to cut Montgomery off from the sea. Montgomery would be pretty well isolated by that point, but I'd expect the Union would still strike against Montgomery itself.

I think some Lincoln diplomacy might be able to pry more of Virginia proper into Northern allegiance, maybe tripling the unionists there.

A "good" effect of Richmond being the capitol of the CSA, from the Confederate standpoint, was making defending Richmond a priority protected the Tredegar Works, the major industrial facility in the south. IMHO, given the thinking in the CSA, protecting Tredgar would not have been as big a priority and you'd not have as many troops defending it. If Richmond falls sooner, eliminating Tredgar, this seriously hurts the CSA's war making ability. Moving the capitol to Virginia was a political move to secure the largest and wealthiest state in the Confederacy, will keeping the capitol in Alabama tip Virginia?
