Mongols vs. Sassanids

Actually there was a battle between Persian and Turks. In Persian epigraphs and legends, Persian King Fereydun couldn't conquer the nort-east of Persia(today's Turkmenistan) because of cat-eyed mounted warriors. In Shahnameh, Alp Er Tunga (Afrasiab) please read these links, there was a battle between Sassanid-Turans(Turkish-Mongolish and other Ural-Altaic nations)...

According to Iranian nationalist poet Mohammad Taghi Bahar, the name Turan derives from the Avestan "Tau-Raodan", which means "Further on the River", where the "River" is to be considered Amu Darya. Bahar also mentions the word Turk is from Middle Persian "Turuk," which means "Warrior" or "Horseman".http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turanian#cite_note-34
