Right-o, so after a lecture on East-West relations in the Middle Ages (the West ignores all evidence available about the East and relies on the popular writings to inform it - so very different to today), I've decided to inflict this poorly-thought-out WI on you all.

So it seems the Pope's first response to the Mongol invasions of Poland and Hungary (after THIS IS THE END TIMES ARGH GOG MAGOG) was "Let's send these conveniently-founded orders of Friars over to them to convert them to the One True Faith!" and so off trotted the Franciscan and Dominican friars to chat with the Mongols about the possibility of accepting Jesus as their saviour in the hopes that they would not lay waste to the continent.

As far as I see it, the scenarios available here are as follows:

  • The Mongols don't convert. Historical, so boring.
  • The Mongols convert to Catholicism, becoming the Pope's most... interesting subjects.
  • The Mongols convert to some sect or other of the Orthodox Church. Mongol Orthodox has a nice ring to it.
  • They butcher the teachings of Christ entirely to create their new heretical branch of Christianity.

What are the consequences of any of these scenarios?
