Mongolian SSR?

Just out of curiosity, how plausible is it for the Soviets to incorporate the Mongolian People's Republic as an SSR? Perhaps the Mongolians ask for and receives annexation to the USSR out of fear of the Chinese? Or maybe instead of setting up the People's Republic then leaving, as OTL, the Soviets just add it to the Union? How would this affect Sino-Soviet relations if it did indeed occur?

If it's ASB, please don't be too harsh in telling me so.

I seem to recall several threads discussing this in the not-too-distant past.

I think it's unlikely because Nationalist China claimed Mongolia (they may still claim it now, for all I know). Didn't the Soviets have decent relations with the KMT in the 20's and 30's? That would probably prevent it.

I searched 'Mongolian SSR' but nothing came up.

As I understand it (read as what Wikipedia is telling me), the Red Army entered Outer Mongolia in pursuit of the Whites and set up the Mongolian People's Republic in the process. Perhaps instead they think, to hell with the Chinese, and incorporate Outer Mongolia as a republic. Would that lead to a Sino-Soviet war? Was Mao and company active by this time (mid 1920s)? Perhaps the Soviets get more involved in the Chinese Civil War?
