monarchy remain in germany after 1918

Assuming he could keep his throne (swift action with a better track record of his own could give him some chances - OTL his father tried top much to salvage himself) and no horde of butterflies happens, he'd probably help Hitler along anyways.
Of course, no Weimar Republic means a fairly different interbellum...

I don't think that Entente would allow keeping monarchy even if emperor would be only formal head of state. Only way with 1918 POD would be that Germany is somehow get victory or stalemante over France. Then perhaps Entente could demand that Wlhelm II abdicates.

With keeping the '100 days offense' as OTL : no way to preserve monarchy, IMO. The will of the Entente powers (including USA) demanded 'crushing' of Prussia as well as 'full' democracy.

IIRC the Crown Prince abdicated just after his father.

I would disagree with the idea that the allies wanted the Monarchy gone in Germany. Considering that Belgium, Great Britain, Italy, Greece were all Monarchies I doubt that point of view . I would however agree that all of the allies want Kaiser Wilhelm II gone. As to his son the crown Prince he was a person that seemed unable to generate a lot of warmth . Best case would be one of the grand children is named heir and a regency takes place. As for President Wilson he was an idiot.

Does not Britain have a credibility problem when they unconditionally insist on abolishment of the monarchy in Germany?

One compromise could be to give the throne to a non-Prussian prince.

As I said I think the main thing that the western allies wanted was for Kaiser Wilhelm II to be off the throne. I think that it would be more likely for a grandson to be named as heir with Prince Henry named as part of the regency council.
If one moves away from the Hollenzollern family I think that that next possibility is Bavaria's Crown Prince. Well respected by the army and by a lot of the politicans in Germany. He would be likely to make Germany a stable Nation that is democratic.

I think you'd have to change dynasties, if you wanted to keep a monarchy in Germany after WWI. Wilhelm absolutely had to go; I'm pretty sure the Hohenzollerns have to go. Bavarian royals might be a good choice. Were there any surviving Wettins?

Ooo... How about a Saxe-Cobourg-Gotha

King Ludwig of Bavaria died in 1921 and then his son became the Pretender to the throne. Prince Rupprecht was a General in both the Bavarian and the Imperial German Army. He was a highly capable office and the soldiers of the Army regarded him with great affection. The family has a connection to the British Royal Family as they are related to the Stuarts. His distant ancestry served in the Civil War in Britain fighting for King Charles. The Crown Prince lead forces which crushed the Communist in Bavaria. If anyone stood a chance of gaining the Imperial throne it was Rupprecht. He was respected by the allied Military commanders. He also was an opponent of Right wing extremest. His Great Grandson is the current pretender to the Bavarian throne.
