Apparently after the US invasion of Afganistan, there were proposals to restore the monarchy, and former king Mohammed Zahir Shah said he would take any responsibility offered to him as leader, be it as king or president. He was apparently popular among people who opposed Karzai as president in the government. What if he was elected as president of Afganistan? Would it have changed the aftermath of the invasion? Would he have become king again?
