Modern Republican Dynasties in a Liberal/Moderate GOP

Many of the modern Republican families which have quite a bit of prestige in the GOP of today were, during the era of Liberal-Moderate dominance of the party, rather Liberal or Moderate in contrast to their Conservative members. The Bushs, the Romneys*, etc.

So what would become the these families and their members if the GOP had not become a Conservative party, and what positions would they take?

*Yes, yes. I know. But (Insert explanation here)

They wouldn't move to the right. Look to Prescott Bush, George Romney and Bush I in earlier years. I'm guessing since a Moderate GOP is more Establishmentarian than Conservative Fringe Base, they would have more power too. Whatever the dominant "centrist" position of the GOP is, they would most likely toe that line.

Well I guess It would depend on the POD wont it...Obviously let's say if Rocky get's in 1960 and manages to serve out two full terms(Or he falls to the 20year curse, and Winthrop wins in '68), It very well could solidify the Rockefeller family's interest in Politics which seemed to wane after Winnie and Rocky's Death in the Seventies. In a Rocky Presidency TL, Im pretty sure Jay Rockefeller might stay in New York and win there as a Republican, while Winthrop Rockefeller Jr, career might have been much more metoric before succumbing to his disease in 2006.

If you want to go really back, I love to see TL's which have the Oyster Bay Roosevelts maintain the influence in the Party. You would need to stunt the career of FDR(But I think the butterflies might be to big, he could win against Al Smith in '24). Either by having him not seek a third term, and the oppurtunistic GOP nominate a man, whose political expierence involves being Governor of Puerto Rico.

I can whip up some more Ideas later...
