Model 45A

I read about this in wikipedia. Go to http://en.wikipedia.org/Model45A. The
Model 45A was a bullpup assault rifle that fired the same .30 cal. ammunition as the Garand M1. Could you give a plausible scenario in which
this rifle, which was a prototype, and never used, could be used?

Very interesting. The original reference is in Small Arms Review, January 2010. The Wiki article is too brief to have any useful detail.

Has anyone here read anything more about this?

Obviously an American assault rifle in ww2 would be... interesting. But without more information it's difficult to make any further comment.

Just off the top of my head, the first thing I'd say is, timing is everything. The US just got done (mostly) producing 4 million M1 Garands in 1945.

There is simply no appetite for spending money on a new rifle with the war winding down.

Now if the fellow who came up with this did it in 1938... that would be very interesting.

Good point. It was supposed to be an LMG, (light machine gun), and it was
developed in the Philippines in 1945. A word to the wise. DON'T try searching for it in National Archives. I tried and they don't have anything about it. You could try the archives of the U.S. Army Signal Corps. There are pictures of it there.

The weapon was not supposed to be a standard infanty rifle. It was a try to get a more compact version of the BAR.

That's what I said, CalBear. It was supposed to be a light machine gun. To
tell you the truth, I'd never heard of it until I read about it in wikipedia.
