Missouri Compromise undera Federalist president

Let's say DeWitt Clinton was elected. How would he solve the issue of Missouri? Earlier civil war? What if?

Well, I'm not entirely sure, but being a Northerner, I'd think he'd go with the anti-slavery side; if so, Missourians might not get to keep their slaves after statehood. The state's admission might be delayed for several years but it might actually be worth it in the long run.....there might not be a Bleeding Kansas problem for one.

Wouldn't southerners just obstruct that?

Maybe. But perhaps something on the order of a 20 year clause that temporarily protects slavery within its borders(and perhaps even still allows slaveowners to pass thru the state unbothered) might very well placate at least the Uppermost South, and maybe even Ark. + Tenn. if Clinton gets lucky.....although the Deep South still wouldn't be happy, of course.
