Minor WI, how would Stalininst Grenada be today?

In 1983 there was a hardline stalininst coup in grenada, led by Hudson Austin who created the military revolutionary concil in grenada, but five days later the american army invaded the island and removed him from power, and since them grenada have been a democracy

now let's say that for some reason the american government decides that grenada isn't a menace and simple allow him to continue his stalininst government, what would be the changes from OTL grenada? I can see Venezuela and Cuba giving them some aid after Chaves is elected, but apart from that, nothing

Maybe it's just my biased belief in favour of the democratic tendencies of the British Caribbean, but I wouldn't predict the full-flowering a Stalinist one-party state. There's a theory that no goverment can remain in power without the support of its population, and I can't see the people of Grenada just acquiescing to one-party rule, especially when, unlike Castro, the coup-plotters couldn't claim "Well, at least we saved you from an evil, Yannqui-backed dictator".

I once read an interview with Michael Manley in which he vitriolically mocked the people who overthrew Maurice Bishop. Manley being a guy usually willing to cut left-wing authoritarians some slack. So if even he figured that they were a bunch of clowns, I don't see how they could maintain the support of the Grenadian public.

That said, being obvious murderers, they'd probably be willing to use force of arms to maintain their rule for a period. Not sure how much loyalty they commanded among the police and military in Grenada.
