Minimal expansion of Islam

What would be the minimal extension Islam could have had? And what would have been the consequences of such?

Minimum area: the city of Yathrib (Medina) & its immediate hinterland.

Consequence: Nobody outside of Arabia, except for a few scholars, has even heard of it.

While it is true Yathrib is the minimal amount, that is probably unrealistic.

Supposing the Byzantine and Persian forces had defeated the Muslims, the minimum expansion would be Arabia, except for Yemen and Oman (which were parts of Persia), and perhaps a small portion of the East African coast.

This sounds about right.

Nothing unrealistic about a man dying before his time. Muhammad could have tripped and hit his head on a rock just after having recruited his first follower.

isn't the minimum actually zero territory ?

Khaled ibn Whalid is late convert, he even fought Muslim before converting. if Islam have to deal with general as capable as him as enemy, it would not survive long after Muhammad death.

it would be interesting TL to see a) Muhammad death before capturing Mecca, thus Caliphs have to go war with Mecca. or b) Khaled (or other great general ) become enemy of Caliphate during First Fitnah.
