This was inspired by the US wins war of 1812 thread.

The Minie Ball could have been developed early if someone had the idea. So, suppose that the USA had just finished rearming the army with rifles. The European powers scoff, since rifles are so slow firing--and they don't find out about the Minie ball right away. So, when the war hits, the US army has a much better gun than anyone else. How much of a difference can this make? Or do you need to add more to make it a decisive American victory?

With or without an American win, the face of infantry warfare has been changed--and artillery doesn't outrange rifles...
