South America, with the exception of Brazil, remained neutral. Brazil got involved after germans U-boats sunk multiple brazilian ships transporting coffee to Europe. The Brazilian Navy sent multiple cruisers to the mediterranean, where they proceeded to get sunk, damaged, and the crew got Influenza. Besides a modest navy(nothing comparable to the nautical jungernaut that was Brazil in the early years of the 20th century) Brazil didn't really have a respectable force at this period. I know that Argentina also had a powerful modern navy in the first years of the century, but by 1914 im not sure.
