Miguel I of Portugal

For an idea I'm starting to develop:

WI Pedro I of Brazil and IV of Portugal dies during the Liberal War, without defeating his brother Miguel? What could be the effects of a lasting reign of Miguel I in Portugal? How could it influence Spain?

There is the possibility of Portugal entering the Carlist War on the conservatives' side.

Do you think that a Portuguese intervention could be strong enough to change the result of the war and help the Carlists? I'm not sure, but by the Portuguese army of Miguel doesn't seem to me a good one.

Interesting, will he somehow get his niece to marry him, or would Maria still be out there fronting a rival government in the Azores ?

Best Regards

I was intending to make him obtaining an annulment of his marriage, and Maria going to the exile in Brazil. Then, because she was a granddaughter of the Austrian Emperor, Francis I, Miguel could try to get a Habsburg wife, if there is any princess available (Archduchess Maria Anna of Austria never married, but I don't the reason for this, or if she could be considered too old to marry him).

I'm not sure also. There is at least a bigger number of troops and a new front available for the Carlists. Even if that doesn't lead to a Carlist victory, it would mean a longer and more destructive war.
