Might people think a 1938 war an error?

In otl we know what happened both the Nazi triumph and that the Nazi state went on to be genocidal.

It occurs to me that Germany would likely have eventually lost a 1938 war. I think a deal might have been made with Poland.

I suspect that lots of Sudenten Germans would still have left. I think that there would be propaganda about abuse of Germans in Czechoslovakia

It is hard to know what could be done with Germany.

It might be that French and British soldiers would end up occupying for a long time.

What do people think?

Well, it all depends on what France does. I think the war OTL could have been a quick victory had France decided to push instead of sitting on the sidelines.

I don't see why it'd be occupied for a long time. The Nazi state would have quickly collapsed as the generals turned on Hitler and one suitable candidate would emerge to put some Adenauer analogue into a restored Weimar Presidency.

'Hitler's War' might become known as similar to 'The Kaiser's War'. Another waste of lives and resources to keep an angry German in check, and schoolchildren tut along with their teachers when absently told that if only cooler heads had prevailed at Munich, another generation might've been spared wasteful bloodshed.

And, of course, TTL there has been no Holocaust, and Hitler has never laid claim to any territory not inhabited by Germans. He has been guilty only of the venial sin of treaty-breaking, not of anything really wicked.

So it will be far easier to whitewash him, and Neo-Nazi parties will be perfectly respectable.
