There's another topic not exactly about Midway which descended into page after page of back and forth about the hypothetical invasion and it's chances of success.

Here is what i found on the www (just a regular bloke using google), which imo puts to rest the issue of how many toops the japanese committed to the operation. Some are adamant to keep parotting Parshall& Tully regardless of the questionability of some of their claims, and annoyingly enough it turns out that the older sources were right after all about how many troops the japanese commited (about 5000). It is also perplexing that msrs. Parshall& Tully, purpotedly writing their books from the japanese angle, haven't used japanese primary sources like Senshi Shosho in regards to the japanese strength.

Also, for another original japanese report of Midway, see Japanese Monograph 93 (i posted this link in another discussion on the subject previously). Of note are the details regarding how many artillery guns and MGs the invasion force had, namely 94 guns of various types and 40 machine guns. Wish we had the breakdown by caliber (there were field, AT and AA guns)
