Middle Eastern ATL/POD Ideas
I was thinking about doing a new Middle Eastern ATL. Wanted to run a few ideas past you guys, I thought up six potential ATL. I like 1, 5 and 6 best but wanted to get your opinions. Would any of these be interesting? I can elaborate further on any if you wish, thanks.
1.
The Despot of Messpot: Arnold Wilson ATL, Wilson, nicknamed the
"Despot of Messpot", gets his wish and Britain establishes a more direct rule in Iraq. The country developed on very different lines and is heavily influence by British India.
2.
The Saudi-Iraqi Kingdom: Ibn Saud ATL, Saud is named king of Iraq instead of Faisal. This idea was actually floated in OTL but they opted to appease Faisal and the Hashemites.
3.
The Iraqi Ataturk: King Ghazi ATL, Ghazi lives his car crash in 1939. Surviving this brush with death, he vows to remake Iraq in a similar fashion to his idol Ataturk's Turkey.
4.
Renaissance and Resurrection: Baathism ATL, A very different Iraq and Syria develop. Assad and Saddam both don't become President. The Baath party doesn't splinter into rival Syrian-Iraqi branches.
5.
The Nile Runs Red: Nasser the Communist ATL, Nasser embraces Communism and, instead of Pan Arab Nationalism, he pushes for a Communist Arab Union. Also gets into Communist party in Iraq and Syria.
6.
The Long Days: Saddam Hussein in Arab Spring ATL, No U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003 and Saddam Hussein remains in power. Arab Spring is not butterflied away and civil wars develop in both Iraq-Syria. Assad and Hussein become mortal enemies.
Any comments, other ideas for POD's or better titles feel free to post, thanks.
