Mid-19th Century Spanish Navy

Hey everyone, I doing some research for my “The Union Forever” TL’s Spanish-American War, which starts in 1877. Does anyone know where to find any good information on the mid-19th Century Spanish Navy? Thanks for the help.

Try looking at stuff about the Chincha Islands War - a mostly naval conflict fought between Spain and Peru in the 1860s. I found some decent info on the navy in the course of researching for a Spanish resurgence TL I hope to do at some point.

From what I remember, Spain's navy would have been a match for the US at that point, though the balance could have shifted by the next decade.

You could also look at the ships from the Chincha Islands war. I don't know how old they were then, and how much longer they lasted, but ten years in this period wasn't that long. I'd certainly think the Numancia was still around.

Numancia is still in sqn service, as is Vitoria, Zaragosa, Sagunto and Mendez Nunez. Each is more powerful than the entire US armoured fleet.
