There is an idea I'm thinking about and would like feedback on. I wanted to present the outline of the idea here:
First, I need to find a way to weaken the American Revolution. Perhaps kill Washington and Jefferson. The result is that while the US does "win" they dont "win" as quickly. Also, the colonies remain disunited under some kind of articles of confederation.
A few decades later, Napoleon comes along, takes Louisiana back from Spain, but does not tell anyone. With no USA to sell it to, he remains in French hands until Napoleon is defeated, at which time, Spain merrily keeps quiet that they sold the darn thing in the first place and pretends it never happened.
French democrats and pro-napoleonites then leave France for Louisiana, and eventually, the rest of Spanish North America. When Mexico finally declares independence, those French settlers, though small in number, are there to provide stability. Then they (research needed... Either they bring a Napoleon ally along to be Emperor, pick an Emperor of their own, or form a strong democracy) which provides the stability needed to make Mexico last.
Then some yadda yadda about the development of Mexico and so on and so forth. Mexico presses for, and gets control over Oregon, and ends up purchasing Alaska. They are able to extend their influence (either peacefully or via a war) to capture most of what is Western Canada. Some more etc etc, then in the 1920's or so the nation is overthrown by a Socialist/Communist thingamabob and Mexico becomes a Communist country. Mexico, however, avoids falling into dictatorship, and becomes what we'd call euro-communist, and/or Trotskyist. The "Communist" party moves away from "Communism" but retains socialist thingies, etc etc, finally Mexico, with all the oil and resource wealth of places like Texas, Alberta, and Mexico itself, is able to build a superpower, etc etc. the end.
so, thoughts?
