Meteor Shower 1944

myth

were there any spiritual beliefs held by the japanese that involved meteor showers?

Possibly a bad omen:to retreat OR the gods encouraging you to fight on and die for the emperor?

Are there any japanese members here who know something about this?

Ok my apologies, I should have said METEORITE.

Meteorite #1 hits the Yamato. The Meteorite weighs 1.25 tons on impact with the battleship.

Meteorite #2 hits the Bunker Hill. It weighs 2 tons on impact with the carrier.

Meteorite #3 hits the New Jersey. It weighs .5 tons on impact.

I remember the numbers for a "equilibrium" speed for a mass in such range being around 200 m/s. You get 50 MJ impact energy at Yamato.
To compare: a 18,1 inch shell of Yamato's own main gun weighs 1,3-1,4 tons and travels at higher speed than that.

So, the damage is roughly equivalent to a hit by a HE (not AP though) round from a battleship main gun. The battleships will sustain major but repairable damage unless the ammunition storage is hit. After the damage control is finished, the crew will wonder where the ship is located that fired off the shell and why there no other shots coming. Only after the ships return to port for repairs, they will determine that it wasn't a shell at all.

Given that the number of meteorites that have hit man-made objects in the last century can be counted on, what the fingers of both hands?, the chances of THREE hitting major warships in a single grouping at a single time is ASB. The odds are surely astronomical.
