Mercian sucsesion

Æthelflæd the daughtor of alfred the great, was the ruler of mercia until her death in 918 AD. When she died a sucsesion strugle erupted between her brother edward king of wessex and her daughter ælfwine.
Edward won and annexed mercia.

so my question is what if Ælfwine had won? Wuld mercia remain independent resulting in three independant kingdoms of northmbria mercia and wessex? or was a unifid england inevitable?

At this point, Mercia was definitely under Wessex dominance, part due to its own destabilization since the IXth century, part due to the Anglo-Scandinavian pressure. Mercian nobility saw Alfred and Edward as "natural" protector of Anglo-Saxons against these, and the issue was less a succession struggle than much more probably a regional coup attempt that turned to fizzle quickly, due to lack of real support base.

Not that absorbtion of Mercia was historically inevitable (altough the tendency of Anglo-Saxon petty-kingdoms to form unified ensembles certainly was), but by the Xth it was far too late.

Could you make an effort when it comes to write your posts, please?

Essentially, it's a problem with orthography (there's capitalization as well, but that's minor) : it looks like you rushed to write your post without checking or even really caring about it, with regular and obvious spelling error that a spelling check would have easily helped to correct.
