Mercator-BAM

I'm going to attempt to make a mercator-bam. It will be in mercator projection (obviously).

It will also be very easy to make population, road, river, etc. maps out of this, since mercator has lots and lots of maps dedicated to that stuff unlike Robinson and others.

For resources, I've been mainly using these two:

The first link is pretty self explanatory, for the country just go to the map for its counties/municipalities etc. and right click on the map then do copy image or save as.

The second link is kinda complicated, but very useful. So when you open the link, it will have 2 maps side by side. theres a drop down menu to select maps from above each map. Set the left map to Bing Aerial, and the right one to Bing Hybrid, as such:

The zoom level should be at 7:

I've just found some more things:

OSM opentopomap will be great for making a topography map.

OSM FR openriverboatmap will be great for a potential river map.

OSM OpenSnowMap base would be great for making ice caps or any other maps like that.

Good road maps can be made with Esri Transportation.

And one of the most important ones, Esri Boundaries and Places will be amazing for making 1st level, although it does get kind of complicated near cities and I can't tell what to use.

I've just found something that'll make my life a lot easier: You can overlay maps on top of each other!

Select Bing Aerial on the top drop down menu. Make sure that one of your maps (left or right) have Esri Boundaries selected. Then you can use the slider to get the opacity right (pick whatever opacity you feel is best.)

Then it'll look something like this

And another thing, paris and some other big cities have these subdivisions and I'm not 100% sure what to do with them? anyone have ideas?

Edit: Found out how to use spoilers, the page is a lot cleaner now.

Esri gray is an alternative to Bing Hybrid as it displays borders better, and the text doesn't get in the way of the borders.

Those are 4 of the French départements. They're as separate from eachother as, for example, Manche and Calvados in Normandie.
