Medieval America Mark III

I agree with @frustrated progressive on the canal issue. A lot can happen in 900 years, after all. Plus they can utilize what pre-Regression tech they have to build the canal before it's completely regressed. Maybe a group of prescient people build it as a way to prepare for a world without trains, planes, or automobiles.

Hey buddies, I have a new question:
What would be modern "Tales", such as Superheroes/Disney Princesses become in the Medieval America? Some kind of "Skalds" record them, and propagation them across the land?

well I did the Avengers as a bardic tale of legendary warriors, and Loony
toons as Brer Rabbit like tale skewering the nobles and church and merchants

Would certainly put a new meaning to the phrase "The Dark Knight". I guess Superman would probably be synthesized with Jesus or Moses too.

Oh, superhero stuff. A specialty of mine :p:

1) I imagine Superman mostly goes back to his more Golden Age portrayal of Outgoing and Cocksure, but also of Being Fed Up With Evil's Shit. Still protecting common folk against corrupt nobles (Archduke Lex Luthor, anyone? He's a mad alchemist and improves military tech in his spare time, useful against Superman, and goes full rogue mad scientist in time...), hordes of baddies (cowboy raids) and natural disasters. His basic powers of strength, durability, speed, flight, and heat vision and powerful breaths exist if appropriately toned down for the age.

A lot of his Kryptonian elements could merely be re-packaged into heaven-based stuff, like being blessed by God or angels or something as he's sent away from a dying land or town (hey, the place name suffix -ton can be Krypt-Town, a pun on a Dying Town). I could see his enemies being de-tech'd: Brainiac's just a crazed foreigner using black magic to collect all knowledge ever for ultimate powerr and revive himself in new bodies and various superpowers as need be. Zod is a surviving noble from Krypton cursed by Satan and gathering an army to invade Metropolis when he isn't leading a pack of soldiers. Metallo's a sadist stuck in a powerful suit of armor warped around him. Toyman's still a beta, bitter manchild lashing at society and just one helluva blacksmith. And so forth.

2) Batman and Robin can go almost unchanged. Bruce Wayne the benevolent lord takes on the various outlaws plaguing Gotham. His detective work and rogueishness is more played up and the Batmobile a black horse. Probably stoic and vaguely Adam West/Brave and the Bold cartoon-like in persona to make him more friendly for all ages, in he's Serious and Determined but not excessively grimdark.

3) Wonder Woman would be much more serene as she originally was in the Golden Age (and contrast to Good Ole' Boy Superman) and it's not hard to just have Amazons get in touch with God as a more generic paradise of women, and her enemies just representing some sort of human prejudice.

4) Green Lantern's ring and corps are simply from the Old World. No change to its powerset. He's just the first of the old Union to be made a member of this legendary peace corps.

.....in fact, many of the powers, costumes, origins, etc. are themselves so fantastical in the first place it is simply re-adjusting the power or tech level. Medieval society wouldn't be adverse to heroes shooting lasers out their eyes, magic lassos, or a ring that make light constructs, it's just restructuring the origins of those powers for their societal norms.

How about a warped version where The Dark Knight is considered an enforcer of property rights for the nobility, while Robin (Hood) represents the people, the two forces keeping each other in check in the mythological narrative.

Alternatively, the myth could center around The Iron Knight, where Batman and Ironman are synthesized to represent just a rich, enforcer for the nobility (this could also synthesize the Toyman idea Umbric mentioned).

That might actually be interesting if Robin Hood, the Joker, and Red Hood all get syncreticized into the Dark Knight's great foe - the dour, dark, martially adept noble lord locked in an eternal struggle with the light, joking, thief who steals from the rich and gives to the poor. Depending on your interpretation and social status, the Dark Knight is the noble defender of the innocent against crime and chaos, or the Robin Hood is the kindly highwayman who protects the people against the excesses of a lunatic noble.

Love the idea of mixing Robin, the Joker and Red Hood!

Nice.
And I guess the Disney Princesses would become the remaining "Knowledge" about Europeans and the other side of the Atlantic among the folks?

An interesting thing I discovered is that the Chesapeake & Ohio canal, (which I don't think would exist in a Medieval america) is largely parallel to the old National Road which is an important route across the Appalachians.

It does show up on the trade map, a relatively minor route across the Appalachians.

I have an idea. Now that Mexican Catholic Church raise human sacrifice to control population and insist it is the imitation of Jesus Christ and saints, they can raise different sacrifice for different festival based on various martyrdom of saints. For example, Mexicans can divide a caste of professional baptists called "John". Daily Johns baptize people, but every year on Decapitation Day of John the Baptist, one of them will be chosen to be decapitated as the sacrifice.

This seems to fit this setting pretty well...

Medieval America Fanfic: Tale as old as time

In the new medieval America, if you ask an intellectual or maritime businessman living in New England or close to Canada, what is the world out of the North American continent, especially the Atlantic Ocean, they will give you all kinds of the argument. But if you ask a rural peasant or ordinary citizen, they will definitely answer you categorically: the opposite side of the East Ocean is kingdoms ruled by the descendants of the legendary princesses.

In this land of this time, the most passionate tales recorded by the bards and the few theater actors, besides DC and Marvel Legends, is the Disney Princess legend. In Cincinnati, they told people that there was a place called France in the opposite side of the sea. There was once a princess with a brown hair and reading hobby, ruled kingdom with her once cursed husband.

In Atlanta, they told people that on a peninsula called Scandinavia, there were really two kingdoms that were sometimes hostile: Arendelle and the Southern Isles; and Queen Elsa, who had platinum-blonde hair, finally chose Whoever lives for a lifetime has different opinions-In some stories, she and her sister Anna took the army to the south killed the thirteenth princes of the Southern Isles. She wiped out the threat and finally upgraded to the eternal demigod of the Snow Queen. Some said that the Queen faced the threat of external power, had to cooperate with the Southern Islands, and finally married the thirteenth Prince. The two countries merged relatively peacefully; there are many different versions, but none of them have been widely distributed as the two versions.

For most people, these stories are real history that has happened, not a fictional story. Corresponding to the "Great Epic" about the story of superheroes, the legends of the princesses have been gradually sorted into a collection of stories called "Blue Rose" for hundreds of years. There are very few people who can recite the whole "Blue Rose". Such personnel often claim to be a serious illness and suddenly can recite the whole story. Most people tell these stories according to what they have learned.

Of course, in the official theater sponsored by the republican city-state of the Pacific Northwest, there is still a memory that is most correct for the original story. There are even a few people who know that these stories are just stories of the residents of the southern Hydraulic Empire before the Regression, and know that part of it is pure fiction, and part of it is based on existing stories. But who cares?

There are differences in the stories in different regions, such as the "Tangled" printed by Seattle's EA Company (about the meaning of the combination of the two letters) and "Rapunzel" printed by Jameson and son's printing house in Buffalo on the other side of the North American continent, the story can be different from the life of the heroine Rapunzel. The main thing in common is that Rapunzel finally killed his black-hearted stepmother, escaped from the tower and became the queen.

In areas where Christian patriarchalism is compared, such as the nomads in the middle and the evangelical boundaries, the story of the princess is forcibly linked to the passages in the Bible: for example, Cinderella is moved by the love and loyalty of God to the Almighty Lord bring her into a new life.

In the areas that the US government can influence, the story of Pocahontas has become a particularly important part: all of her stories are linked to the May Flower to the Declaration of Independence, most of which are original in the New Medieval Age.

In the African American-dominated New Orleans, Tiana as the only African American in the princesses, she and her stories have been adapted into voodoo legends and become part of the so-called "local historical memory."

As for the image of the princesses and the princes, they are close to the image that the audience can understand in various depictions. Therefore, the image of the princesses is more like a young lady in a president or a sheriff's family. As for the princes, it is more like a lord wearing armor and robes, instead of wearing a gorgeous military uniform with epaulettes and ankle straps.

New medieval poets and writers have also created stories that allow different princess legends to be connected in series.

Of course, as mentioned above, the stories of different poets, different groups and different publishers are not unified. But it is very difficult for new medieval people to understand different lifestyles. You can't ask them to clarify the remarkable difference between 10th century of Merida's life, the 18th century of Belle's life, and Elsa and Anna's 19th century.

Among the North American continents, especially the feudal cores and the northeastern coastal family, some families will come up with genealogy to prove that they have a bloody relationship with a princess or queen across the sea. In short, from Detroit to New Orleans, from Baltimore to San Francisco, the legend of the princess is not only a story for children, but also few ways of the new medieval Americans to have the access of information about the Old World.

I'm wondering if instead of the like the first renaissance the second happened in East Asia over Europe and North America. With clippers coming to the new world directly from Korea, China, Japan and even as far as India about a century after current events in Medieval America. Bringing with weaponry and technology reminiscent of the 18-19th centuries and colonizing the western regions of the new world once again, playing off local rivalries. Though with being closer to the Spanish-Portuguese colonization instead of the Anglo-french leaning more towards assimilation and intermarriage

I don't know if they'd be able to colonize much of the West Coast. The residents are at a medieval state of tech, not the practically stone-age tech of pre-contact Native Americans.

Perhaps some great calamity (a plague?) could wipe out the West Coast's population, leaving them open for colonization?

Hmmm, White never speculated about plagues or illnesses.

What illnesses could be common in the new world outside of the usual culprits in the old world.

I imagine that the plague would be really common. Cholera, measles, smallpox etc.

Syphillis? Maybe some new illness borne by new world animals like turkeys?
