So much ASB so little time First a factual error in 1921 the 1886 law that put the Secretary of State next in line behind the Vice President was still in effect. When it comes to AH, the American people would not be ready for war in 1915.Remember Wilson's winning slogan in 1916 was he kept us out of war. aAfrica war????? wWhy would the US be so interested in Africa? I am not sure TR would have won the. 1904 Republican nomination. tThe vice presidency was a dead end in those days. hHe was a war hero so it could be possible.

Also VPs in that era rarely got the nomination.

Virtually never.

The last one was Van buren in 1836 (unless Breckinridge in 1860 counts) and the next would be Nixon in 1960. And given that TR had been nominated for VP precisely to reduce his political influence - -

Exactly. A more likely choice would be LaFollette, who would be a three-term governor by this point, and was actually a friend of McKinley's (despite some political differences). Roosevelt's best bet will be to return to New York and make a run for the United States Senate. If he is able to get enough support in the state house, he could find himself as one of the preeminent Progressive Senators of the Era (ironically enough, essentially flipflopping his and LaFollette's career, which would be rather beautiful!)
