McCain wins in 08, Who runs for the Democrats in 2012?

Don't know if this should be in chat, but if McCain had won, any idea who would run for President on the side of the Democrats? Would Obama make another run?

Probably Hillary Clinton, since her main opponent in the Democrats lost. If she ran in 2012 against McCain, it would be a very close race.

2012 Democrats would include Hillary Clinton, Mark Warner, Evan Bayh, Joe Biden, Al Gore, Kirsten Gilibrand, Deval Patrick, Ted Strickland and maybe Obama again.

He might, especially if he had finished a strong second in '08 since he isn't that old and could portray 2008 as a learning experience. More than likely he would win in 2012 if the economy under McCain was no better than it was presently (Obama can blame the previous 8 years of GOP control, McCain wouldn't have that luxury after 12 years of GOP rule). The Obama campaign would have a field day tying the weak "McCain economy" to 12 years of Bush-McCain policies.

I don't think it would that close. If the economy follows roughly the same path it has since the '08 election, the their is going to be alot of unrest in America. Couple that with the fact you've had a republican in the White House for 12 years, and you've got the perfect storm for what could be a Hillary landslide. Assuming she would be the nominee...

If it's very close, if Obama even wins the popular vote, then I could see him winning it rather easily.

Really? I could be wrong but I think Obama was the favourite to win the 2008 election ever since he received the nomination, so if he lost (however narrowly) in 2008, wouldn't it be seen as snatching defeat from the jaws of victory? If so, I think Obama could struggle to clinch the nomination 4 years later.

Not sure who the 2012 nominee will be ITTL though-I personally quite like Obama, so perhaps I'm wrong and he would be the dems best bet, despite the 2008 loss.
