I'm wondering where I can find McCain vs Gore 2000 election polling. Can anyone help?
Gore wins, I think, by the same logic that Nixon wins if he goes up against a less charismatic Democrat. The fundamentals mostly favored the incumbent party in those elections, but incumbency fatigue turned the balance of the race onto the candidates themselves and the conduct of the campaigns.

Keep in mind also that McCain's main strength is foreign policy, whereas the 2000 election was fought largely over domestic issues, where McCain is weaker.

Who does McCain pick as his running mate?

He might be bleeding conservative support and that could cost him support in parts of the south that will be close like TN and FL

McCain have to really pick a conservative firebrand like Trent Lott or Fred Thompson to offset his standing as a moderate. Perhaps George W. Bush if they can get over the hostility from the primaries like Reagan and his father did.

So the December 20-21 poll showed Gore tied against McCain but losing badly to Bush. The December 9-12 poll showed Gore losing by eight points to McCain and thirteen points to Gore. Given how far the Bush-Gore figures were from the ultimate result, I doubt the McCain-Gore figures should be taken any more seriously.

Thank you. Do you know of anywhere where I can find state by state polling?

Really? Moderate or no... Wouldn't most Republicans vote for even a moderate candidate rather than a Democrat.
