Matilda of Tuscany marriage candidates

Hi all, if this has been discussed before please post it.

Today have been looking at Matilda and her marriages which were a bit of a disaster and it is one thing she did not seem particularly interested in. (my opinion)

The first marriage to Godfrey the Hunchback is within reason for them to get married and they could have had children, however as it slowly deteriorated it became baseless. Is there anyone else she could have married instead of Godfrey?

The second marriage to Welf II, Duke of Bavaria was purely political and pointless as it also ended badly as the first. Who could she have married instead of Welf II?

If anyone has any details of any such failed marriage proposals please post it and the marriage to Godfrey is interesting in that why was he picked?

What about Robert Curthose as second husband...

Hi

After I posted realised that I could find some candidates by going onto CKII, as Wikipedia is linked to certain real life characters and I came up with the following for her first marriage candidate line up:

William IV, Marquess of Monferrant - by marriage to Matilda he would expand his territory exponentially and it would be the correct direction in unifying Italy. Do note his class might be too low for her's though.
Berthold II, Duke of Swabia - What Berthold II went on to do was very intriguing and a marriage to Matilda would make him and his children formidable opponents.
Hugh, Count of Vermandois - A marriage to him would be very interesting because he did have a lot of children, however, his and his issues prospects did not come to anything. (Waste?) Thinking about it thought the Holy Roman Emperor may prevent it because he would have an enemy within his own state.
Arnulf III, Count of Flanders - I like Arnulf III the best as he died by accident in 1071 at a very young age, which opens up the possibility that he could have married her. I personally like the house of Flanders and I can imagine him having multiple sons thus keeping the count of Flanders and Matilda's Tuscany separate.

Credit to all of them, they all have advantages, intrigue and excitement. I'm just wondering why she did not marry any of them.

I will check out Robert Curthose as her second husband.

Regards

Gerbod the Fleming, 1st Earl of Chester ended up losing his title as a result of being captured and the earldom becoming vacant supposedly. First time I've seen any mention of Arnulf III since joining the site.

Just find someone with a Strong Claim on whichever duchy you want, click Send Gift, then Invite to Court.

(P.S.: My usual Matilda start is to invite and marry Richard de Hauteville.)

I am aware, hence the mention of Gerbod.

Misunderstanding. I see the first time you have heard Arnulf III since joining this website. !!!! I see the connection, he is the one killed Arnulf. Thank you very much.

It is really hard to find the people I listed because there is no account of what they did and who they were was not documented or could not survive to this day. So by using radical tools one can find the information. That is one of the reasons why no one (using this as an example) knows why Matilda did not marry anyone else? I am sure the there is a small possibility the information is out there but it is going to be a huge warehouse, written in Latin on a piece of paper 1000 years old.

I have had some luck finding information before on certain subjects that would be considered obscure but it took quite some time. It's unfortunate that a lot of people rely on Wikipedia nowadays.

I always find when buying a book your paying for the information, not the paper, as an example, I found an extremely rare book that is only in german on the anatomy of how the Dora railway gun was built, designed and worked. It cost £90. I cannot read it because it is in German but when I am older I am going to get a Freelance translator (who also has advanced IT knowledge = PDF document) to translate it for me so that I can read it. That will be a great trip to Germany. Then if I can, I will find a company that prints books and I may have the only English copy on the planet. :winkytongue::cool::p:happyblushx'D
