Chapter 1: How can he afford to play hockey?
Gustav was raised by a single mom in the area of Västerås called Skallberget. When he was five he saw the older kids skating during the winter on the tennis courts that was made of asphalt and was filled with ice when it was called. He also wanted to skate and asked his mom. She could not afford it and discused it at work. Her co workers had older kids with old skates that they gave to her so that Gustav would be able to play. After getting a hockey stick from a friend of the family he went and played with other kids and liked it.
At age 7 he joined Västerås IK hockey school and played with other kids in the same age. He liked to train and decided he wanted to play as a forward. In the first game he ever played VIK was beated by Surahammar with 10-2, Gustav scored one of the goals. Beteween 8 and 10 years of old the hockey was mostly learning the game and playing for fun. The parents to the other kids often discussed how Gustav and his mother could afford to play hockey since they did not have so much money. For a few years Gustav also played fotball in the summer but never liked it as much as hockey, he played in the Västerås IK boys born 74 and became close friend with Johan Vesterlund. In 1985 things improved when Gustavs mother got a decent pay when she started a job som computer programmer. Gustav could now get better gear. When Gustav was 14 he was the top scorer for 14 year olds in the county and close to the top in the country. At age 15 he was selected for the Västmanland team in TV-pucken. TV-pucken is yearly tournament for 15-16 year olds with the semifinal and final aired on SVT. Much thanks to Gustav and 8 goals and 5 assists Västmanland reached the final against Västerbotten, but lost with 4-0. Västerbotten had a super team . The next year the semi final and final was played in Västerås and Gustav was instrumental for Västmanland to reach the final, but Västmanland lost with 4-3 with Gustav scoring 2 goals. The youngest national team U16 was picked after the tournament, but the coached seemed not to like something about Gustav and he was not in the team
Now it was time for Gustav to go to the gymnasiet and he choosed Social studies to get a good education in case that he did not reach far in hockey. He ended up in the same class as his friend Johan Vesterlund. They formed a core group and was called the entourage.
