Massacre at the Little Bighorn

What would of happened if it was not just Custer and his men were massacred at the Little Bighorn? There were three columns that were sent after the Lakota and their alles. What if all three columns were massacred?

In OTL a year later the Sioux were all on the reservation. So if another 200 soldiers were killed. The Sioux end up on the reservation. I don't think your going to see much difference. Maybe more Sioux are killed. Maybe Sitting Bull is not allowed to escape to Canada.

Crook's column had already turned back by June 25.

But to simply answer your question - I think if all Army forces part of the 1876 campaign had been present at the Little Bighorn the Lakota would probably have been the ones getting massacred. If a battle had been fought at all, which in itself is not necessarily likely.

True, and thanks

If Cook had been present the army would have 900 more men bringing the total up to 1500 men. Considering that the indians had around 1800 men according to wikipedia i dont think we would have seen a battle but rather a surrender by the indians.

If the indians fight and the military dont make a blunder it will be a massacre for the indians.

Cook had already been repulsed at the Rosebud. Custer divided his force into three columns, himself, one column under Reno, and Benteen in the rear.
Reno's colunm was being mauled even before Custer rode into the ambush. Benteen had been ordered at the last minute to catch up with Custer. When Benteen caught up with Reno, he decided to support a demoralized Reno, who had lost half of his men, instead of trying to meet Custer. Also some of the Native Americans who had been attacking Reno went off to finish off Custer.
As it was Benteen and Reno were barely able to survive. If Benteen had obeyed orders and tried to meet up with Custer, he would almost certainly been masssacred. And if Benteen had not been there to shore up Reno his column would also have been wiped out. All three columns couild well have been wiped out, not just Custer's one.

Thanks, for this
