Marvel Tangent

Tangent Comics was a DC Comics imprint created in 1997-1998, developed from ideas created by Dan Jurgens. The line, formed from various one-shots, focused on creating all-new characters using established DC names, such as the Joker, Batman, and the Flash. But what if Marvel had a similar universe?

Doctor Doom- In 1997, Doctor Stanley Kirby of Stanford University in Palo Alto, California was caught in the "strange particle" chamber during a tachyon experiment, which turned out to be the target of international espionage. Unfortunately, Kirby was suddenly cursed with the ability to randomly see events of the future. He has used these powers, witht he assistance of the NSA and the CIA to prevent disasters at large. That year, he stopped Vladimir Sobolyovhas of the Rerikh Academy from causing the "Earth Changes" which would have caused the massive flooding and destruction of Western civilization. In 2000, he prevented the Japanese Sukyo Mahikari cult from launching a terrorist attack in London. In 2001, he prevented 1000 extra-terrestrials from "Myton" in 33 spaceships from seizing control of San Diego, California. That same year he prevented Al-Qaeda from attacking the World Trade Center in New York City, NY for a second time. In 2004, he helped NASA prevent Asteroid Toutatis hitting the planet. Because of his ability to predict disasters and his grim and pessimistic view of humanity, The San Francisco Chronicle dubbed Kirby, "Doctor Doom"....

Sabertooth - In 1994, researchers for SABERTOOTH Inc. finally accomplished what was once considered science fiction: the Cloning of long extinct animals. Said clones seemed to be able to escape the problems of pre-mature aging which plagued prior specimens. By 1996, Manhatten's zoos were filled with dodos, giant aye-ayes, and other exotic long dead beasts. But there are rumors that animals may not have been the only things they revived...

Nightcrawler - In a city like Manhatten, far too many violent criminals escape justice. But for a small fee, this inhumanly precise and stealthy assassin will hunt down and brutally maim whoever wronged you or your loved ones. He has been dubbed 'Nightcrawler' by the media for his ability to seemingly completely blend into shade. But whatever the case may be, no one has seen his face -- only his 'business card'...

Matt Murdock a.k.a. "Daredevil"- Need someone to jump off a 86-story building with a parachute in downtown Manhattan? Want someone to drive a Humvee through a North Korean minefield? Have to have someone fly an Apache AH-64 attack helicopter less than 12 feet off the ground in Los Angeles during rush hour? Got to have someone drive a 1968 Mustang through downtown Baghdad at 120 mph to free hostages? If so, then there is no other person you can hire than Hollywood stuntman extraordinaire, Matt Murdock. Ever since 1987, Murdock has been secretly using his film work as a cover for missions for the CIA. He even saved the life of President Al Gore's beloved daughters in 2001, after Al-Qaeda terrorists attempted to use the Japanese "Death-Rape" Machine created by Aum Shirinkyo. So, if you are an adrenalin junkie, or just want to watch stuff explode...You have to check out "Daredevil!!"

Nova- On April 13, 1953, the town of Las Cruces, New Mexico, 220 from the nearest city experienced 3 days of a continuous blue light that resembled what a supernova. The resulting effects, drew in the U.S. Army to investigate . While results were inconclusive, the world changed forever in those 3 days. On December 22, 1979, the town's local nuclear power plant suffered a meltdown which released a radioactive cloud over the populace of 15,789 people. 158 people would die or be diagnosed with cancer and/or radiation sickness within the first 6 months. For the remaining 14,209 people, strange powers were bestowed on the populace. The first was the power of telepathy, which caused the populace to evolve into a "group mind". The second was telekinesis which allowed the populace to move objects mysteriously by their own will. This happened within the first 5 years. Soon powers were developed by residents that were seen as evolutionary leaps intended to help in their occupational tasks (e.g. Sheriff Dewey Thompson developed the ability to read the last thoughts of a crime victim, along with the ability to read the "memories" of inanimate objects at a crime scene). On April 29, 1996, residents heard a strange unaudible sound described only as "the Pitch" which could only be heard by residents of the town. Within 5 days, the city was engulfed by a strange impenetrable dome which has remained in place until now. Now the big question on everyone's mind is "What is the Nova?".....
