Marvel Purchases Lucasfilm and Is Not Bought by Disney?

So what if Marvel remained independent and had the resources to purchase Lucasfilm? Say that the 1990s are much kinder to Marvel, with no bankruptcy scare for one, allowing them to be stable enough to acquire the other company?

I guess the result depends on when they acquire LF - before the prequels, before Episode VII, etc.

Obviously LF's tech and experience would be helpful in creating the Marvel films, but I doubt that Marvel would have the massive amount of money that Disney has OTL to throw at the films, even if Marvel does better than OTL.

Here's the thing, Marvel did make movies in the 1990s and they were dire. There is a Captain America movie, A Nick Fury movie and a number of other missteps. It is going to take a major POD for them to be taken seriously as buyer for Lucasfilm, regardless of the money on offer. Also if Marvel is more solvent in the 90s they won't have to sell the rights to Spiderman and the X-Men, so there would be no drive to create the MCU as they still have their 'A-List' to put onscreen.

What Garrison said. With the state Marvel was in in the 1990s, it'd be likelier for Lucasfilm to buy Marvel than the other way around.

But what if Marvel hadn't made those horrible movies? What if interest in Lucasfilm was their first attempt at getting into the movie business?

i sincerely doubt that Marvel would have any interest in buying Lucasfilm--remember, while Marvel Comics has been around for decades, Marvel Studios is quite recent

Then even less reason Lucas would be willing to contemplate selling to them. Oh and Lucas and Marvel have a history before the 1990s and it didn't have a happy outcome:

Howard the Duck

This film made the 1990s Marvel efforts look like Infinity War by comparison.

As John Farson suggested the opposite acquisition is more likely but in the early to mid 1990s superhero movies have nothing like the significance in popular culture they do today, at best Lucasfilm has a go at making movies with Spiderman, Hulk or the X-Men.
