In 30 May 1518 Martin Luther (who had nailed his Theses the church's door in Wittemberg 6 months earlier) sent an explanation of his writings to Pope Leo X... In 7 August the Pope summons him to Rome to appear before him... The summon however was cancelled and Luther went to Augsburg instead and met with the Papal Legate Cardinal Cajetan and their heated argue actually sparked Reformation...
WI Martin Luther went to Rome and met with the Pope? Could he reach a solution with Leo X or as soon as he set foot in Rome Leo X would burn him as a heretic? Any thoughts?
