I have been spending a little time researching the Roman economy for my timeline (Is Rome Worth One Man's Life). This lead me to come across this very interesting and informative (and lengthy, very lengthy) paper on the Roman economy, specifically market capitalism in the Roman economy. I am not by any means all too familiar with ancient economies, (and anyway haven't come close to reading the whole thing yet) so I cannot say whether the Roman economy was indeed guided by an early form of market capitalism or not.

I figured I'd post this here since I know there are a few on this board that know a bit about the Roman economy. I thought it would make for a nice discussion on the economy of the Roman Empire (Late Republic to Third Century).
