Mario Cuomo, 1992

Apparently, 1992 was predicted to be a loss for the Dems.... so many party hopefuls didn't even try that year.

So, the WI is this: WI Mario Cuomo goes for the party nomination in '92?

Well in 1992 a lot of people, especially liberals, wanted Cuomo.

He did his Hamlet on the Hudson impression, and than on the very last day possible to file for New Hampshire instead stayed in New York to deal with the Republican's screwing around with his budget.

Clearly he never wanted the Presidency enough to go for it, although he probably could have had the nomination in 1988 or 1992 (whether or not he'd win is open to debate, but is quite possible in either year).

In answer to your question: If he truly wanted the nomination, he'd have it. He would have had a solid chance at winning either the 1988 or 1992 general election as well.
