Marcos loses to Aquino

Instead of gaining a second term, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos loses the election to Sen. Benigno Aquino Jr.

How will this affect the course of history?

No dictatorship, for one. Or at least if it does, it would have little constitutional legitimacy. Probably a less powerful Catholic Church (a lot of the political legitimacy they have is their role in the Revolution. Obviously there won't likely be such a revolution, so perhaps a more secular Philippines is in the offing). Likely a better economy long term, so less emigration and brain drain.

From what I understand Marcos was fairly popular in his first term. Plus Aquino would be barred from running due to the Constitution's age limits: the minimum is 40 and he was 36 in 1969.

Dang, totally forgot about that...

Hmm, how about Jovito Salonga?
