What if....

Late 1916: At least some of the Cossack Life Guard regiments are withdrawn from the front and returned to their duties as body guards.

March 1917: Acting on a tip, Czar Nicholas arrives at the strategic head quarters accompained by two companies of life guards. When pressured to abdicate, Czar Nicholas categoricaly refuses. Though he may uhmm... "delegate" more authority to "appropriate people" in the very near future, he intends to return to Saint Petersburg as reigning Czar.

What happens next?

-Do the coup plotters still attempt to arrest him or force his abdication?
- Can the presence of a life guards regiment at the palace keep the Czar from future arrest / death?
-Will his symbolic presence as Czar change the out come of the Russian civil war?
